«B. R.» A Stage Tribute to Poet Boris Ryzhy
A stage tribute to poet Boris Ryzhy, known as "the last poet of the 20th century."
On June 21 and 22, the premiere of the play "B. R.," dedicated to poet Boris Ryzhy, will take place in Istanbul. The work of the Ural poet, who lived only 26 years, has become an accurate reflection and one of the symbols of 1990s Russia.
Showings will be performed in Russian without translation.
Boris Ryzhy spent almost his entire life in Yekaterinburg, and the image of the industrial outskirts became a leitmotif in his work. The audience will be invited into an intimate space reminiscent of a rooftop of a multi-story building. Through dance, word, and music, the artists tell the story of his life and introduce the poetry of "the last poet of the 20th century."
The play features actors from the M. A. Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre Aleksey Kirsanov, Bolshoi Theatre premieres Igor Tsvirko and Vyacheslav Lopatin, choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of Ural Opera Ballet Maxim Petrov, Merited Artist of Russia Oleg Gabyshev, song performer Vsevolod Dorokhov, musicians of Euphoria Orchestra, and other artists.
"The main feature of the play 'B. R.' is the combination of contemporary poetry, choreography, and music. Through this complex form, we offer the audience an insight into the fast and bright life of a person who could be living among us today and who can be called a hero of our time," says the play's director Daniil Romanov.
Evgeny Rein called Boris Ryzhy "the most talented poet of his generation," and Evgeny Yevtushenko presented the Anti-Booker Prize to Ryzhy. Documentaries about the poet have been made in Russia and abroad, and his poems are still quoted by contemporary musicians. The title of the play "B. R." refers to the author's tag scratched by Boris himself on various urban surfaces.
