“The man in your story… he was from here, wasn’t he? A sailor who wanted to escape, to get away from everything. But the one who gets caught in the current and washes up on the shore.”

“Actually, that was you, father… Were you angry because I managed to escape?”

You knew how to dream—we’ll give you that. But this story was never meant for children. It was too dark.”

Sürüklenmiş is a play about waiting.

A sea, a father, a shipwreck, a child, pollution, waves, flotsam, jetsam, french fries, a funeral, a festival, loneliness, love and longing, treasure, deep affection, and separation…

Maybe it is a rescue story. Or maybe the opposite.

It tells the story of two children separated while still deeply longing for each other—about fathers and sons, brotherhood, leaving and being able to leave, guilt, and the ability to grieve.

When you leave, does everything really stay behind? Your father, your sibling, stories, crabs, the sea—do they stay behind? When someone is waiting, can you simply say “it’s okay, I forgive you”? Can you just order your feelings and say “we’re fine now”?

Probably not. And anyway, there’s no time.

Soon, the Sailor will come and take the father’s soul. Until then, we must love each other.

The sea carries everything—but it does not bring every burden back to shore.

What would you do?

Really.

Would you forgive everything after a father who left?

Who knows.

Maybe.
