Vice Versa emerged from Belgian pianist Bram De Looze’s (LABtrio, Joey Baron, Thomas Morgan, Hank Roberts) desire to collaborate with musicians he perceives as a natural extension of his own musical language. In this search, he quickly found a shared artistic spirit with New York master drummer Eric McPherson (Jackie McLean, Andrew Hill, Pharoah Sanders, Fred Hersch) and Berlin-based bassist Felix Henkelhausen (Jim Black, Nate Wooley, Lotte Anker). Both are composers in their own right, known for their boundless rhythmic creativity.
This versatile, exploration-driven trio pushes the boundaries of expressive interpretation and creative output. Moving fluidly between approaches where musical structures shift without losing momentum, they create a compelling sonic synthesis. In this process, the spirit of the jazz tradition continues to surface through intuitive journeys within free improvisation and contemporary musical forms.
Their debut album Vice Versa, released in 2023 on Dox Records, received widespread acclaim. In January 2025, during Bram De Looze’s residency at the Brussels Jazz Festival at Flagey, the trio recorded their second album live in a packed Studio 1. The album was released on February 13, 2026, via Challenge Records.
