24 Oct Saturday · 21:30, Komünite
Tomoki Sanders, one of New York's innovative jazz names, will meet music lovers at Komünite on October 24 at 21:30. The artist, who inherited the profound jazz legacy of legendary musician Pharoah Sanders, carries the spiritual and boundary-pushing power of music to the stage just like his father.
Sanders creates a bold cross-genre musical language by blending Afro-American and Japanese cultures with avant-garde, electronic, and urban tones. Noted for his performances with Kassa Overall's group over the last five years, the musician also takes an active role in the New York scene with his own "Tomo Tuesdays" event.
Advancing along the innovative path opened by musicians like Kamasi Washington and Shabaka Hutchings, the artist will also revive the free jazz spirit specific to the golden age of legendary Impulse! Records at Komünite.
