A unique encounter between Italian songs and contemporary jazz. One of the most versatile voices of the Italian music scene, Simona Severini, joins forces with the duo Yürüyen Merdiven.
Alongside Yürüyen Merdiven’s “two-legged dance,” Severini creates a distinctive musical language blending original compositions in both Italian and Turkish with contemporary interpretations of jazz standards.
In this project, Simona Severini’s voice functions not only as a melodic instrument but also as a narrative thread that connects Italian lyricism with Yürüyen Merdiven’s complex sonic architecture.
A Knight of the Order of the Italian Republic, singer and songwriter Simona Severini regularly collaborates with Enrico Pieranunzi. She is known for exploring the boundary between jazz and Renaissance music and has performed at major jazz festivals across Italy and Europe. Her works have been recorded for Lucio Dalla’s Pressing Records and Virgin Records.
Yürüyen Merdiven is a jazz duo consisting of Yiğit Özatalay and Mustafa Kemal Emirel. Their balance stems from the intersection of the melodic character of drums and the percussive nature of piano. Having released five albums, the duo has performed extensively with internationally acclaimed artists such as Angelika Niescier, Eloisa Manera, Kristian Lind, Luca Avanzi, Andrzej Wlodarz, Camilla Barbarito, Fabio Marconi, Mercedes Casali, and Hans Andersson.
