The Masterclass Series at Paribu Art Continues with Mel Churcher

Benedict Cumberbatch, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Keira Knightley, and Henry Cavill are among the internationally renowned actors Mel Churcher has worked with. Now, the acclaimed acting coach is coming to Istanbul.

One of the world’s leading instructors in on-camera acting, Churcher has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company for many years and has served as an acting coach on more than 70 film and television productions.

In this special workshop taking place on April 25–26 in collaboration with Juste and Paribu Art, participants will explore on-camera performance techniques through discussions on camera and monitor usage, gaining hands-on experience in screen acting.

Who is Mel Churcher?

Mel Churcher is a British acting coach and educator. She began her career as an actor before moving into theatre direction and voice coaching, eventually specializing in on-camera acting training and becoming an internationally respected teacher.

She worked for 12 years in the voice and text departments of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Open Air Theatre. She has also taught at institutions such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, LAMDA, Actors Centre, Mountview, Rose Bruford College, Zurich University of the Arts, Prague Film School, and Berlin Die Tankstelle.

Throughout her career, she has served as an acting coach on more than 70 film and television productions and has authored three books on on-camera acting. Her students include Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Henry Cavill, Rachel McAdams, Michelle Yeoh, Stellan Skarsgård, Djimon Hounsou, and Charlie Cox, among many others.

Her method combines writing, directing, acting, and voice coaching experience. In her workshops, she uses camera and monitor setups to analyze performances in real time, helping actors understand both how they appear on screen and how their performance translates on camera.

Masterclass Content: On-Camera Acting

Over two days, Mel Churcher will explore the technical and creative aspects of screen acting, including:

  • The relationship between actor and camera

  • The impact of performance on screen

  • Self-analysis through playback

  • The role of camera and monitor work in shaping performance

Participants will not only learn acting techniques but also experience how performances are shaped on camera and how they are perceived from the outside.
