Gözyaşı Çetesi brings its unique musical universe to the stage at Komünite on February 5 at 21:30. Born on the foundation of alternative rock, Gözyaşı Çetesi has evolved into a collective with blurred boundaries and its own rules. Formed in the early 2000s by musicians who crossed paths across Istanbul's alternative music scene, the group started as a duo project by Pınar Balcı and Umut Arabacı. With the addition of Faruk Kavi, Sinan Tınar, Anıl Dağ, Volkan İncüvez, Emir Akçit, and Gökhan Sürer, the band took on its current form. Gözyaşı Çetesi blends electronic, progressive, and psychedelic music with Anatolian melodies, drawing on a vast reference world ranging from African rhythms to Berlin techno. The band introduced its signature sound with its debut album *Garip Davam* (2016) and deepened its musical world with *Karar* (2018). Breaking its silence after a long hiatus, the group recently released the 15-minute track "Yengeç Kızlar" and its intergalactic counterpart "#hücumkızlar" on the same string. They continue to expand the boundaries of their unique universe. The hallmark of Gözyaşı Çetesi emerges most vividly in their live performances, far beyond their recordings. Starting with familiar songs from their albums, these performances often evolve into long improvisations where even the group is unsure of the next step. Intricate patterns and extended jams born from the energy of the moment open up to new adventures each time. They have even played a single piece for an hour and a half at a festival before stepping off the stage. Concerts shaped by a dialogue with the audience create a ritualistic atmosphere that sometimes turns into a collective catharsis, and other times takes the listener on an internal journey.
