The Republic of Baklava Takes the Stage at Paribu Art on June 6–7
Internationally acclaimed, The Republic of Baklava offers a unique theatrical experience that blends absurd comedy with sharp satire.
Two young people from different cultures—one Turkish, the other Greek—fall in love and open a baklava shop together. But when they encounter historical tensions and social prejudices, they find an unusual solution: founding their own “independent state.”
This extraordinary venture soon turns into an ironic story that questions identity, borders, and belonging. By portraying the birth, rise, and fall of a fictional microstate, the play presents a contemporary perspective on nationalism, political systems, and individual freedoms.
Constructed in a documentary style, the production moves fluidly between reality and fiction. With powerful performances and incisive humor, it both entertains and provokes thought.
Take your place in this world where identities are redefined and borders are challenged.
