Yazz Ahmed Quartet’s “A Paradise in the Hold” concert will take place on June 4 at Komünite.
One of the most influential trumpeters of contemporary jazz, award-winning composer Yazz Ahmed blends the mystical sounds of the Middle East with the innovative spirit of modern jazz. Since her debut album “Finding My Way Home” (2011), she has gained international recognition, especially with her 2017 release “La Saboteuse,” which was named Jazz Album of the Year by The Wire.
Having collaborated with major artists such as Radiohead, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Natacha Atlas, Ahmed draws inspiration from her Bahraini heritage and the rich folklore of the region. In 2020, she was named one of “25 musicians who will shape the future of jazz” by DownBeat and received the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation.
Her latest album “A Paradise in the Hold” (2025) explores childhood memories and Bahraini folklore, earning critical acclaim from outlets such as The Guardian and NPR, being described as a “masterpiece.”
The concert will feature Yazz Ahmed on trumpet/flugelhorn, Ralph Wyld on vibraphone, Dave Manington on guitar, and Rod Youngs on drums.
