From the most rooted and mystical communities in jazz history comes an intergalactic legend: Sun Ra Arkestra. They will take the Komünite stage on July 12 and 13. The community is preparing to meet its audience as part of the summer tour organized in honor of Marshall Allen's 100th birthday.
Viewing jazz not merely as a musical genre but as a spiritual expression and a tool for liberation, the community continues to keep alive the visionary legacy of Sun Ra, who laid the foundations of Afro-futurism. With their colorful costumes, mesmerizing stage rituals, and a vast repertoire spanning from free jazz to swing, spirituals to avant-garde sounds, they transform every performance into an experience.
Long holding a very special place in Istanbul's musical memory, the community left indelible marks on the minds of listeners with those famous concerts given years ago in the city's smoky jazz scenes and streets. That magical jazz energy, echoing through the city's streets and told like a legend from those days to today, is now returning with even greater force.
For this tour, musical direction is led by Knoel Scott, a veteran saxophonist inspired by Marshall Allen. The night will feature tracks from the album Lights on a Satellite, which was nominated for a 2026 Grammy. This evening will create the effect of a time machine, allowing you to live past and future simultaneously. Missing this night, where rhythm acquires a cosmic dimension, would mean turning your back on one of the greatest living miracles in jazz history.
